Slingshot Reviews
Robert Denerstein Denerstein Unleashed
It pays homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey, but the characters are as pinched as the ship they occupy, the romance between John and Zoe remains lukewarm, and there's no HAL to serve as a worthy antagonist on a journey that too often seems routine.

I found Slingshot to be more frustrating than bad because it doesn’t have faith in the “first people to Titan” storyline and opts to become a psychological thriller about one man’s escalating psychosis within the confines of a small spaceship.

Despite its many twists and turns, “Slingshot” shows no signs of life.

It feels like a movie that hates its characters. And hates you too.

The continued cutaways back to Earth effectively de-pressurize Slingshot’s main plotline.

This may be the first film to put the viewer through the visceral reaction of lethargy.

I dug the psychology, didn't dig the aspect of storytelling which got in its own way. Casey was at the bat in this one, holding the piece together through sheer will, and his stellar chops as an actor helped the narrative. In space, he had a decent face.

A pretty solid, emotionally driven work, buoyed by fantastic performances and a perfectly chilly atmosphere.

Enjoyable enough in fits and starts, but as a whole it’s two hours not very well spent.

While the vessel hurtles through the galaxy at thousands of miles per hour, the film often seems to move in slow motion.

The movie is pretty much lost in space, but its saving grace is Laurence Fishburne, 63 (The Matrix) as Frank’s Captain. Fishburne always finds a place of truth from which to build his characters, however far-fetched.

Slingshot has a lot of promise, with many elements lined up perfectly, but there is a lack of creativity in the story and an ending that falls flat.

The movie milks the tension a little too much, drawing out the running time. But it kept me guessing, and for an ambitious psychological thriller in the vast emptiness of space, it made its point.

Mikael Håfström goes the cerebral route with “Slingshot”, a science fiction thriller that’s less about pulse-pounding action and more about the psychology of its main character played by a well-cast Casey Affleck.

I had some hope for Slingshot, but I wasn’t going to be too disappointed if it wound up failing. But instead, I got one of the biggest surprises of the year for me so far.

As the story progresses the audience is almost as confused as those on board the Odyssey 1, not knowing what is real and what isn’t.

Feeling more like a bad pilot episode for a sci-fi tv series, Slingshot's odd characterizations and disruptive organization make the double twist ending not worth the wait.
